Back-to-Back Chimney Fires

By web team
February 3, 2010

On Tuesday, February 2nd, at 5:20pm the Riverhead Fire Department was dispatched to a reported Signal-23, chimney fire, on Victor Street in Aquebogue.

After ground ladders were set, a birds nest was discovered inside the chimney cap, and the fire was put out.

Just as trucks were backing into quarters we received a second call, another Signal-23, chimney fire, on Grant Drive, again in Aquebogue.

This time, 102' Tower Ladder 6-2-6 was set-up and used to reach the top of the chimney. A hose team from Engine 6-2-1 then extinguished the fire.

Engines 6-2-1 and 6-2-14 responded to both alarms, along with Tower Ladder 6-2-6. Our 75' Quint 6-2-5 was on standby at Station 3 during both alarms.
