Always Remember
Another Busy Day in Riverhead

By web team
February 5, 2010

On Thursday, February 4th, at 3:41pm the Riverhead Fire Department was activated for a reported Signal-13, smoke coming from a trailer, at the mobile home park on Shade Tree Lane in Aquebogue. First arriving chief 6-2-30 discovered it was just heavy steam coming from a dryer vent. A Signal-5, return to quarters, was transmitted at 3:59pm.

Then, at 4:41pm the chiefs were toned-out for an investigation of smoke in the area, near Rabbit Run, off Middle Road in Riverhead. As the chiefs approached the area, they all reported a smoke condition throughout the neighborhood. After further investigation, they found that a large pile on hay was afire at the nearby Timothy Hill Childrens Ranch. Chief 6-2-30 then called for a Signal-12, brush fire, to be transmitted, and requested that only Engine 6-2-4 and Tanker 6-2-7 were to respond.

All units were returned to quarters by 5:35pm.

A few hours later, at 8:21pm, we received a call for a Signal-12, brush fire, off the side of Route 51. Upon arrival, we found that a passing good samaritan had already put out the fire. GI-Rig 6-2-12A wet-down the entire area and all units were on a Signal-5, completion of alarm, by 8:35pm.

Finally, early the next morning, at 3:41am, we were requested for a Signal-23, landing zone, setting-up across from the 'FedEx' Building on Edwards Avenue in Calverton. The secure landing site was needed for a 'Med-Evac' helicopter, for the victim of a 'forklift verses pedestrian' accident, going to Stony Brook University Medical Center.

All units were returned to quarters by 4:16am.
