On Friday evening, at 7:56pm, the Riverhead Fire Department was dispatched to a Signal-23, MVA rollover, on Youngs Avenue, just West of Osborne Avenue, in Riverhead.
Upon the arrival of the first-responding chiefs, it was discovered that the vehicle was on its side, against a fence. The cars roof was tightly covered in chain-link fencing, trapping the lone occupant. As it sat, sprung against the fence, the car was too unstable to safely remove the victim.
A vehicle stabilization system called 'Res-Q-Jack' (www.res-q-jack.com) was put to work, along with a winch, mounted on 'Heavy Rescue' truck 6-2-11. Once all was in-place,the driver was then able to be assisted out, and was transported to the Peconic Bay Medical Center, by Riverhead Town Volunteer Ambulance Corps volunteers.
Engines 6-2-2, 6-2-3, 6-2-4 responded along with 6-2-11. Traffic control trucks, 6-2-10 and 6-2-10A, shut down traffic on Youngs Avenue, for the duration of the operation. All were returned to quarters by 8:32pm.
